Brightwake’s ‘Old Spokes’ to Cycle 960 miles for Maggie's Cancer Charity

Brightwake’s ‘Old Spokes’ to Cycle 960 miles for Maggie's Cancer Charity

Brightwake’s Managing Director, Stephen Cotton and Finance Director, Iain Osborn, AKA ‘The Old Spokes’ are going to be cycling 960 miles from Lands’ End to John o’ Groats as part of the Deloitte Ride Across Britain event.  The ride starts on 4th September 2021 and over 9 days they are going to be cycling from the South to the North of the country, each night camping at temporary sites along the way.  They are raising funds for Maggie’s and would like to ask for your support.
“When we made the commitment to take on this challenge, we knew cycling 960 miles was not going to be easy, therefore doing it for a great cause was going to be essential to keep us motivated when the going gets tough.

We decided that Maggie’s was our chosen charity because the emotional support they provide is above and beyond anything else available.  All of us have had several close family and friends with cancer and watching them suffer physically is very difficult, but what seems to be overlooked is the emotional struggles they suffer endure.

We have recently visited the Maggie’s Nottingham Centre and were overwhelmed with the breadth of care they provide for anyone affected by cancer.  Everyone that enters for the first time is greeted with a warm welcome and time with a Cancer support specialist to understand their personal situation and tailor a programme with both practical and emotional support.

People can drop in for immediate support whenever they need it.

Your donation will help Maggie’s make a huge difference to the lives of people with cancer as well as their families and friends. A donation of just £50 could pay for an hour of immediate support for someone just diagnosed with cancer with a Cancer Support Specialist. Your incredible donations will help many more people when cancer turns life upside down."
How your donation can help:
  • £5 can pay for cups of tea for a person living with cancer and their loved ones visiting for the first time.
  • £20 pays for one person to attend a nutrition workshop to help people eat well and feel better during cancer treatment.
  • £50 pays for an hour of support or advice for someone just diagnosed with cancer with a Cancer Support Specialist.
  • £300 pays for a Cancer Support Specialist to provide advice and support for all visitors welcomed at a Centre each day.
  • £2,400 funds our Centre for an entire day.”
